Bridget
Jones Diary – Bridget Jones (Renee Zellweger) is
a thirty something British singleton who is struggling against her age,
weight, job, lack of a man, and her many imperfections. She makes a
New Year’s resolution; she takes control of her life by keeping
a diary which will tell the complete truth the whole truth and nothing
but the truth! I would also suggest reading the book
as it goes into more details with her diary.
The
40-Year-Old Virgin – Steve Carell plays Andy a 40
year old virgin who finally finds true love and gets laid. Along the
way, there are very funny scenes involving being coached by his friends,
speed dating, being propositioned by his female manager, and getting
his chest waxed.
Hitch
– Will Smith plays Alex Hitchens “The Date Doctor”
who helps single hopeless men land dates with good looking women while
his own love life is a complete mess. You will learn some good dating
tactics from this movie such as the half lean approach to kissing.
High
Fidelity – John Cusack plays Rob Gordon, a thirty
something record store owner and compulsive list maker who recounts
his top five breakups excluding the one in progress. He begins a quest
to confront these former lovers and learn why they dumped him. Check
out the music soundtrack,

I’m
with Lucy – It’s an hour before Lucy’s
wedding and her best friend wants to hear about what lead up to that
special moment. Lucy tells about her experiences with five blind dates
in one year but only one of these men is “Mr. Right”. Which
one of these men is Lucy about to marry?
Muriel’s
Wedding – Muriel finds life in Porpoise Spit, Australia
dull and spends her days alone in her room listening to Abba music and
dreaming of her wedding day. Slight problem, Muriel has never had a
date. She steals some money to go on a tropical vacation, meets a wacky
friend, changes her name to Mariel, and turns her world upside down.
Must
Love Dogs – Diane Lane plays Sarah Nolan a recently
divorced 40-ish preschool teacher whose meddlesome family wants her
back in the dating game. Eager to help Sara cyber date, her sister fills
out an online dating profile behind her back. You will see Sarah date
a series of mismatched suitors leading to awkward encounters some of
which will make you laugh out loud. Sarah finally meets one guy named
Jack (John Cusack) a boat builder who shows promise, though he himself
is recently divorced and a little tender. Sarah learns to trust her
own instincts and learns that is never a good idea to give up on love.

First Dates – Henry Roth (Adam Sandler) is a man
afraid of commitment up until he meets the beautiful Lucy (Drew Barrymore).
They hit it off and Henry think he's finally found the girl of his dreams,
until he discovers she has short-term memory loss and forgets him the
very next day. Since she never remembers him, Henry has to romance Lucy
every day in hopes that she will fall for him once again.
Kissing
Jessica Stein - Jessica Stein is a single, straight, successful,
journalist, part of a bonded Jewish family living in New York City,
who finds herself not as straight as she thought when Jessica meets
and begins an intense friendship with career woman Helen Cooper which
ultimately leads to romance. This movie is about dating, love, life,
family bonds, self discovery and friendship filled with a dose of humorous
wit.
The
Truth about Cats and Dogs - Janeane Garofalo plays Dr.
Abby Barnes, the "Truth About Cats and Dogs" radio question-and-answer
show host who unwittingly entices a listener over the radio with her
soothing voice and personality. Insecure about her looks and her nonexistent
love life, Abby agrees, but describes herself as a tall blonde, then
begs her attractive neighbor Noelle (Uma Thurman) to meet with Brian
in her place. This movie shows us that beauty is measured from the inside.
About
a Boy – Will Lightman (Hugh Grant) is a hip self
absorbed Londoner who one day realizes that his friends are all involved
with the responsibilities of married life and that leaves him alone
in the cold. He decides to pass himself as a single father, in hopes
of preying on desperate single mums confident in his ability to leave
them behind when they start to ask for a commitment. Will's hope of
a continued bachelorhood is interrupted when he meets 12-year old Marcus
who teaches him some lessons about growing up.
How
to Lose a Guy in 10 Days – Benjamin Barry (McConaughey)
is an advertising executive and ladies' man who bets that he can make
a woman fall in love with him in 10 days. Andie Anderson (Hudson) a
magazine writer and is assigned to write an article on "How to
Lose a Guy in 10 days" by making all the mistakes that will drive
guys away and record the process for her article. They both meet each
other in a bar shortly after the bet is made.
Amy’s
O – Julie Davis plays Amy Mandell a single celibate
female and bestselling author of the self-help book “Why Love
Doesn’t Work”. When she is interviewed by an arrogant radio
DJ, sparks fly and Amy is forced to examine her theories in the real
word.
Wedding
Date – Single-girl anxiety causes Kat Ellis (Debra
Messing) to hire a male escort (Dermot Mulroney) to pose as her new
boyfriend at her sister's wedding because she is afraid of confronting
her ex-fiancé who dumped her two years before.
Sliding
Doors – A London woman’s love live (Gwyneth
Paltrow) and career both hinge, unknown to her on whether or not she
catches a train. We see her story unfold in two ways. Makes you realize
everything in life is based on some good timing.
You’ve
Got Mail – Meg Ryan plays Kathleen Kelly a children’s
bookstore owner who sees her little store eaten up by a chain of Fox
book superstores owned by Joe Fox (Tom Hanks). The two rivals meet anonymously
over the internet where they gradually build to intimate correspondences.
You just never know who you are going to meet online. Ah the sweet words
“You got mail”!

Actually – Follows the lives of eight very different
couples in dealing with their love lives in various loosely and interrelated
tales all set during a frantic month before Christmas in London, England.
Love is the theme of this movie and all its variations are shown wonder,
joy, pain, happiness, passion and grief. This movie makes you aware
that there are so many kinds of love combinations in the world.
Someone
Like You – After being jilted by her boyfriend, a
talk show talent scout Jane Goodale (Ashley Judd) writes a sexist column
accusing all men of being cheaters, which gains her national fame. Her
theories of male behavior are based on the mating habits of cows. Jane
gets the opportunity to test her theories on her new roommate Eddie
(Hugh Jackman) a notorious womanizer who has a “new cow”
every day.
Singles
– A group of twenty-something single friends, most of whom live
in the same apartment complex, search for love and success in grunge-era
Seattle This movie is filled of life lessons and a great film about
the ups and downs of being single. If you love early 90’s grunge

Girls – Former classmates re-unite for their ten
year high school reunion in the small town where they grew up. They
find themselves evaluating their lives, relationships, careers, childhood
dreams as well as desires to deal with reality and appreciate life.
